Yeh-yeh (Grandpa): "Someday when Yeh-yeh is old and I can't walk, will you carry me?"

Mads: "No."

Yeh-yeh: "Then what are you going to do?"

After thinking it over for a while, Mads says: "I'll give you money."

Mommy: "Mads, your shoes are on wrong!"

Mads: "Yeah, I just got tired of wearing them right."

June 2005

After picking up Mads from her classroom and walking down the school hallway to El's classroom:

Mommy: "Madeleine, did you eat your lunch today?"

Mads (Stops in the hallway, puts her face in her hands, and with a mocking sort of fake-cry): "Ohhh ho ho....my teacher forgot to give it to me. Ohhhhh ho ho...." (And then continues down the hallway, loudly laughing to herself.)

October 4, 2004

Mads (Sitting at the dining table during dinner): "When Mommy cleans the floor (making a vacuuming motion), I get scared. But Jesus holds me (hugging herself) and I'm not scared anymore! (big smile)."

Mommy: "Awww, that's great Mads!"

Mads (With her elbows sitting on the table matter-of-factly): "Kinda beautiful, huh?"

While riding her bike with El, outside the house: "I'm going to the dark side!......But I'm actually gray."
